Privacy Policy

The short version, with the detail in the sections that follow. We do not ask you to create an account and we do not want your personal information. Many of our tools process your image entirely inside your own browser, so the file never reaches us at all. Where a file does need to be uploaded, it is held in memory only for the seconds the operation takes and then discarded — never written to disk, never stored, never shared, never looked at.

We do show advertising, and that is the one place where third parties are involved. Advertising partners, including Google, may set cookies in your browser to measure and personalise the ads you see. That is described in full in section 6, together with how to turn personalisation off.

imagecompressor.cc ("Image Compressor", "we", "us") is an independent website providing free online image tools. For the purposes of the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) we are the data controller for the limited personal information described in this policy. We also address the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) in section 9.

This is the part most people are asking about, so it is worth being precise. Our tools work in one of two ways, and each tool page says which.

Processed in your browser. Resizing, cropping, rotating, most format conversions, the EXIF viewer and the EXIF remover all run on your own device using WebAssembly and your browser's image support. Your file is never transmitted anywhere. This matters most for the metadata tools: the data being inspected is often the exact location a photo was taken, and uploading a file to find that out would defeat the point.

Processed on our server. Compression to a target file size, PDF conversion, animated GIF work, and the less common formats such as HEIC, TIFF and PSD require image libraries that browsers do not have. For these your file is uploaded over an encrypted HTTPS connection, processed in server memory, and returned to you. It is discarded as soon as the response has been sent.

In neither case do we store your images, write them to disk, index them, share them, sell them, train anything on them, or look at them. We claim no ownership of anything you upload. There is no archive to request deletion from, because nothing is kept.

We do not require registration and we collect no names, addresses or payment details through the tools themselves. The information that does exist falls into three narrow categories.

Server logs. Like virtually every website, our servers and hosting provider record technical request data: IP address, timestamp, the URL requested, HTTP status, approximate response size, browser user-agent and referring page. These logs exist to keep the service running, diagnose faults, and detect abuse such as automated scraping or attempts to overload the service. They are not used to build a profile of you and are retained only for a short period (see section 12).

Information you send us voluntarily. If you email us or use the contact page, we receive whatever you choose to put in that message, including your email address. We use it to reply and for nothing else.

Advertising and cookie data. Collected by our advertising partners rather than by us, and described in sections 5 and 6.

We use a single item of browser local storage for our own purposes: a theme value remembering whether you chose light or dark mode. It contains no identifier, is never transmitted to us, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

Beyond that, cookies on this site are set by third-party advertising services rather than by us. These are used to limit how often you see the same advert, to measure ad performance, and — unless you opt out — to personalise which adverts appear. Section 6 explains how to control them.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser's settings. Blocking advertising cookies does not affect any of the image tools; every feature on this site works with cookies disabled.

This site is free to use and carries no subscription. Hosting and image-processing costs are paid for by advertising, and we want to be straightforward about what that involves.

We use third-party advertising companies to serve adverts when you visit. These companies may use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies to collect information about your visit to this and other websites, in order to provide adverts about goods and services likely to be of interest to you. This information may include your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you viewed and the approximate region you are in. It does not include your name, and it never includes the contents of any image you process here.

Google as an advertising vendor. Google is one of the third-party vendors that may serve adverts on this site. Google uses cookies, including its advertising cookies, to serve adverts based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve adverts to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet.

How to opt out. You can turn off personalised advertising at any time:

• Google's Ads Settings lets you disable personalised advertising across Google services.
• The Digital Advertising Alliance and Your Online Choices offer opt-outs covering many advertising vendors at once.
• Google's privacy and terms for partner sites describes how it handles data from sites that use its services.
• Your browser's cookie settings can block third-party cookies entirely.

Where required by law, visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised advertising cookies are set, and can withdraw or change that choice at any time.

We keep measurement to a minimum. We do not use products that follow individual visitors around the web or attempt to identify them. Where we need to understand which tools are used and whether pages are working, we rely on aggregate figures that cannot be traced back to a person.

Should we introduce a more detailed analytics service in future, this section will be updated to name it before it is switched on.

For visitors in the UK and EU, we rely on the following legal bases. Processing your uploaded file is necessary to perform the task you requested. Keeping short-lived server logs rests on our legitimate interest in operating a secure, functioning service. Personalised advertising cookies rest on your consent, which you may withdraw. Replying to an email you sent us rests on our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.

Under the GDPR, and depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw consent, and to receive a copy in a portable format. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.

Residents of California have the right under the CCPA and CPRA to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information and never have.

In practice there is very little for us to act on, because we hold almost nothing: no accounts, no image archive, no profiles. Requests generally concern the server logs or an email you sent us. Write to logickosrtech@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. For data held by advertising vendors, use the opt-out links in section 6 or contact those vendors directly, as we cannot access their records on your behalf.

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. We ask advertising vendors to treat our content as general-audience material. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

All traffic to and from this site is encrypted with HTTPS. Uploaded files are held in server memory rather than written to a filesystem, processed in an isolated environment, and released as soon as the response is sent. Uploads are size-limited and rate-limited to reduce the risk of abuse, and files are identified by inspecting their actual contents rather than trusting a filename.

No system can be guaranteed completely secure. If you are working with genuinely sensitive images, prefer the tools that run entirely in your browser — those files never leave your device at all.

Uploaded images: discarded immediately after processing, never persisted. Server logs: kept for a short operational period, typically no more than 30 days, then deleted or aggregated beyond recognition. Email correspondence: kept only as long as needed to resolve your enquiry. Theme preference: stored in your own browser until you clear it. Advertising cookies: governed by the vendor's own retention periods, described in their policies.

Our servers and service providers may be located in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where personal information is transferred out of the UK or EEA, we rely on the safeguards offered by our providers, such as Standard Contractual Clauses. Because uploaded images are not retained, no image data is stored in any jurisdiction.

We may update this policy to reflect changes to the service, our advertising arrangements or the law. The date at the top of the page always shows the current version, and material changes will be described here rather than made silently. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
