Facebook's news feed displays shared images at up to 1200 px wide. The 1.91:1 aspect ratio (1200×630 px) is the standard for Facebook feed posts and the recommended og:image size for link previews. Images that don't match this ratio are cropped to fit, which can cut off important content. Resizing to exactly 1200×630 ensures your image displays as intended.
Facebook applies its own JPEG compression after upload. To minimise quality loss, upload a JPEG at 85–95% quality. Avoid uploading WebP or PNG for photographic content — Facebook converts them to JPEG internally, and starting from a JPEG gives you more control over the compression level. For graphics with text, PNG may produce a crisper result before Facebook's conversion.
A 1200×630 px image works for both direct Facebook feed posts and as the og:image meta tag for link previews. When adding og:image to a webpage, use the same 1200×630 px JPEG to ensure the link thumbnail looks correct when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms that use Open Graph.
