Instagram's feed displays images at up to 1080 pixels wide. The 1:1 square format (1080×1080 px) is the safest choice because it displays correctly in every Instagram placement — the main feed, the explore tab, the profile grid, and carousel posts. Non-square images are cropped to square in the profile grid, so a square original avoids unwanted cropping.
Instagram re-compresses every uploaded image. To get the sharpest result after Instagram's compression, upload a 1080×1080 px JPEG saved at 85–95% quality. Avoid heavily pre-compressed images — start from the highest quality source available. Use sRGB colour profile for accurate colour reproduction across devices.
