Instagram Stories use a 9:16 full-screen vertical format. At 1080×1920 px, your image fills every pixel of the screen on any modern smartphone without letterboxing or cropping. Smaller images are upscaled and may look blurry; larger images are downscaled. Starting at exactly 1080×1920 ensures the sharpest result after Instagram's compression.
Instagram overlays UI elements on Stories: the profile picture and name appear in the top ~250 px, and interactive elements (links, stickers, reply box) appear in the bottom ~250 px. The safe zone for important content is the central 1080×1420 px area. Place text, logos, and CTAs in this zone to avoid them being hidden.
