The National Testing Agency requires a recent passport-size photograph (3.5 cm × 4.5 cm) scanned at 200 DPI for JEE Main applications. The file must be in JPEG format, between 10 KB and 200 KB. At 200 DPI, the pixel dimensions are approximately 276×354 px. The photo must clearly show the candidate's face, have a light or white background, and must not include a cap, sunglasses, or headgear (except for religious reasons).
The most common reasons for JEE photograph rejection are: incorrect file size (outside 10–200 KB), blurry or pixelated image, dark or patterned background, wearing caps or sunglasses, incorrect aspect ratio, and photos older than six months. Resizing correctly and keeping the file within the specified range prevents most rejections.
JEE Main (conducted by NTA) and JEE Advanced (conducted by IITs) both require a recent passport-size photograph in JPEG format. JEE Main specifies 200 DPI scanning. JEE Advanced follows similar constraints — passport-size JPEG, 10–200 KB, light background. The 276×354 px dimension is appropriate for both.
