Twitter (X) displays in-line tweet images at up to 1200 px wide in the timeline. A 16:9 aspect ratio (1200×675 px) produces the largest possible inline preview without cropping — filling the full width of the timeline column on desktop. Images with other ratios may be cropped or letterboxed, reducing visual impact.
Twitter re-compresses images after upload. Upload a JPEG at 85–95% quality for the best result after compression. For images with text, sharp lines, or logos, PNG may produce a crisper result. Avoid uploading pre-compressed images — always start from the highest quality source available.
Tweet images use a 16:9 format (1200×675 px). Twitter profile headers use a 3:1 format (1500×500 px). These are two separate image types with different aspect ratios — a tweet image cannot be reused as a header without resizing. Use our Twitter Header Resizer for the correct header dimensions.
